Rise Above Challenge: Day 11
Breath of Fire
Carl is here to guide you through some very powerful breathing exercises that will help you recenter and energetically move through any stuck negative feelings. These practices are Kundalini Yoga exercises, and a great way to shift and reset throughout the day.
The breath of Fire is a form of Pranayama and is rapid, rhythmic and continuous.
- Sit down comfortably.
- Lift your chest, open the heart (front of body).
- Drop the shoulder blades.
- Pump the Naval while breathing 1-3 minutes.
- Inhale and hold the breath while contracting lower centers/root lock for 10 seconds pulling energy into the higher centers.
Extra Pointers: Breathe through the nostrils with a closed mouth, breathing deeply into your stomach (the Breath of Fire is powered from the navel point and solar plexus) To exhale, the air is expelled powerfully through the nose. This feels automatic if you contract the diaphragm rapidly. To inhale, the upper abdominal muscles relax, the diaphragm extends down, and the breath seems to come in as part of relaxation rather than through effort.
Make sure to keep the breath powerful meanwhile keeping the rest of the body as relaxed as possible. For example, try to keep a relaxed face and avoid frowning.
(Women on their moon cycles or pregnant are advised to avoid this breath and can perform the exercises along with slow, long and deep breaths.)
